Finding a cell phone that's right for you isn't a very difficult process but can be quite a daunting task when inundated with the myriad of various types of phones available. Choosing the plan that's best for your needs isn't quite as tough.

To get started, think of what type of coverage you'll require. You'll want to check all the major carriers and have a look at their coverage maps to make sure you'll have service in the places you visit most.

The next important step is looking at the various rates that a company might have to offer. You'll want to be sure and compare between every carrier that you've narrowed your options down to. Several factors come into play here such as text messaging charges, mobile to mobile coverage and charges, internet plans and international rates.

If you find that you'll be doing a lot of communicating via text message you might want to check all the carriers plans for unlimited text and picture messaging. The rates on that can vary from company to company and can run anywhere from $9.95 a month to $39.95 a month.

If you think you'll require internet service on your cell phone, you'll need to examine the companies individually for hidden fees or ridiculously priced connectivity charges.

Some carriers offer what appears to be a nice and fair rate for internet connectivity all the while masking the fact that they will charge you extra each byte of data you download or load from a web site. You should make sure you thoroughly examine the internet plans that each carrier offers to make sure you'll be getting the best for your buck.

Another factor when choosing a carrier is minute sharing. If you're only looking to have one phone line, any of the various carriers can be perfect for you and the above mentioned factors will be your major obstacles. If you plan to have multiple lines added for family members or loved ones, you will need to carefully examine the minute sharing plans.

Some carriers may have rates that seem fair for your needs until you find that each line may only be allotted a certain amount of minutes each month as opposed to simply allotting a set amount of minutes to a plan and the overage charges apply only after all of the minutes have been used as opposed to overage charges being applied when one of the lines goes over their allotted minutes.

Some carriers offer convenient features that allow you to select a few numbers you call the most, regardless of whether the number is connected to another mobile carrier or landline service, for free.

Usually plans such as this mean the calls made to those numbers will count as free minutes and will not subtract from your monthly allotment of minutes. These plans are quite popular with families who are spread out everywhere in the world or country and like to keep in contact. Plans such as this are often quite popular with teenage customers for keeping up with all their friends at once.

Yet another feature you may want to look into is the "rollover" feature some companies provide. What "rollover" minutes do is simply that, "roll over" to the next month of service time if you haven't used them all yet. This can come in handy when one is planning to be out of town one month and know they'll require extra minutes or when some months are known to be less heavy talk times for that person and others are incredibly talk heavy.

And the final thing you'll need to look into is how many minutes you will require. This varies from customer to customer and is pretty easily determined. If you will be using the phone for emergency use only, you might want to check into any of the various pre-paid phone services available from multiple carriers today.

If you will be using the phone as a secondary line for use while away from home or the office, then a smaller amount of minutes should be fine for your needs. If you know that the phone will be your primary means of communication, you should definitely look into the larger minute plans available.

Determining the phone that's best for you isn't that daunting when you simply break it down. Many customers are immediately drawn to a phone's outward appearance but the truth is just because a phone looks nice doesn't mean it's a reliable phone.

You need to check into what the phone does. Your cell phone cameras want? How much battery life do you need, you're in your cell phone? Your phone to access the Internet from work? How do you compress your phone, do I need? Before deciding on the weight of these forms is an option that should be.

All carriers show a detailed breakdown of what each phone does on their websites and any customer service representative over the phone or in the store can generally break it down for you if you're still unsure. Choosing the right phone for you is actually an easier task than you originally thought.

And now, you're all set to face the wide world of cellular services and make an informed decision about what phone and plan is best for you.
